I-94 stamped?

I filed for ROC in February 2019 and my case has been waiting for interview to be scheduled since the beginning of June. Now my extension letter is about to expire so I should get the I-551 stamp. But from what I see you need a form I-90 which is $445 + $85, is that correct? 

Also, my passport expired (the plan was to go back to Sweden to visit this year and get a new one at that time but Covid kind of ruined those plans so here I am) so does anyone know if I can get the I-94 stamped instead?

Your status does not expire when the extension letter does. Only the evidence of your status has expired.   If you require evidence of your status for travel, you can call USCIS for an appointment to get a stamp.  Otherwise, there is no need for action at this point.   You do no need an I-90 or pay any fees......

 

I would find a way to renew my passport.

@Ca & MoMy Swedish husband  went to the Consulate General of Sweden in NYC to renew his expired passport- I don't know all the rules about it, but it was a really quick appointment and they even mailed it to us in Boston a couple of weeks later.

That would certainly be the prudent thing to do imo........then go to USCIS for a new I-551 stamp.....

It would and I wish I could but there is no way I can travel that far right now. Because of Covid and finances.

You do not need a valid passport for an I-551 stamp. They can issue it on an I-94 if neccessary. I know Sweden is odd about passport renewals - and their mobile consulate thing that they do every year isn't happening because covid which leaves you with either a trip to DC or NYC for it - so don't worry too much if you can't.

Thank you! I know my status doesn't expire but my ID does so I do need to get the stamp. I appreciate your help!

You only need a stamp to show continued proof LPR status, for employment, to get a drivers license or to travel out of the USA. If you not doing any of those things you will be okay to wait until you get your 10 year card or until a need comes up to have proof of your status then make an appointment to get the stamp at local USCIS field office.

So I had my info pass appointment yesterday and I figured I'd update here in case others need this information. 

 

I had my info pass appointment in the Chicago field office. It was fine going there, we drove and used spot hero to get and pay for a parking spot ($14.50 for 7 hours, not bad at all!). 

No lines in, quick and easy to get through security. I got to keep my phone with me which was nice. Got up to the first window, had to fill out a form. Waited about 30 mins for my number to be called. Got up to the window and told what I needed. Gave her my expired passport. This was a problem. She told me she couldn't give me the stamp in an expired passport but if I get two passport photos and bring them back before 3 pm I can still get the stamp. Get out, find the closest CVS, call them to make sure they do passport photos. About 5 minutes away. Get back, give her the photos, sit back down and wait. Took fingerprints and photo. And then sat back down to wait. And wait. And wait... Eventually I got called back up and she handed me my card that is valid for 6 months, not a year. 

 

All in all it was stressful but I'm glad I got it. Now I have to go to the DMV which is so much worse!
