Hi ladies and gentlemen! My husband dropped the divorce word last week again. This pandemic took a big toll on us unfortunately. I am not sure where our marriage is gonna go from now on. I have 10 year residency card (resident since February 2017) and applied for citizenship (based on 3-year marriage to a US citizen) in March 2020. I have the notice of action and nothing else (no bio-metrics appointment) as of now. My question is if I can change my application to "based on 5-year residency" during the interview if the whole process takes so long  that it would be more than 5 years by the time I get to be interviewed in the future? Among all the financial things I have to consider, I just don't want to pay the naturalization fee again if possible. Thanks for the help.

Sorry to hear about the troubles.
Unfortunately, you have to be eligible on the basis you apply for at the time of filing, so if you do get divorced  you should withdraw the current N400 application (there are no negative ramifications for doing so) and reapply when you are eligible to do so under the 5-year rule. The first fee payment will however be lost if that happens.
