Hi. I was told by a travel agent that after my fiance receives her fiance visa and she travels to America so we can get married then my fiance will be required to show the customs agent in America a round trip airplane ticket before she can enter America because she will have only a temporary fiance visa and the customs agent will require her to show that she has a return date to her original country because the visa is temporary and not permanent. Is this true?

Can someone tell me if I should by a round trip ticket or a one way ticket?

Also I am having trouble locating a airplane ticket departing from Brazil. Can anyone give me some cheap websites to buy airplane tickets departing from Brazil?

Or, can I buy a round trip airplane ticket for her departing from America and then returning to America even though she will not use the departing ticket, she will use only the returning ticket? Is this possible? Thanks.

No, you don't need a round trip ticket. I know K1 holders who came with only 1 way ticket, and had no problems even though K1 is a non-IV

1123521,

No, it's not true. Customs agent are only concerned with what you are bringing into the country with you.

Immigration agents will not require a round-trip ticket either.

I can't advise on the best sites for getting good fares to and from Brazil, but your fiancee will not need a round-trip ticket, she can travel on a one-way. You might find a round-trip fare is cheaper though, I know it often is from many countries (don't know whether that applies to Brazil or not).

If she does get a round-trip ticket, it would probably be best to get a Brazil-US-Brazil one... if you buy a round-trip ticket originating in the US and she doesn't use the outward portion of the ticket, the airline will most likely automatically cancel the return ticket as well, I believe. :)

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

I don't think you can use only the second half of a round trip ticket anymore like you could back in the day. When she fails to show up for the first leg, the second leg's reservation will be canceled by the airline. Not sure about buying tickets from Brazil, I am assuming you tried sites like Orbitz and Expedia? But don't get a roundtrip (unless its cheaper than oneway, but make sure she takes the first leg, that is from Brazil).

Buy which ever is less, My fiancee came to the USA on a one-way ticket absolutely no problem what so ever, the officer at POE also understands tha a K-1 and K-3 visa don't require a round trip ticket, they don't even ask to look at a return ticket.

This question has got to be among the top 10 asked on VJ, it iis in the FAQ

4.10..I'm getting conflicting reports on what is required for a plane ticket to the U.S. I was told that you need to have a round trip ticket. Is that true?

A...This subject has been discussed in the newsgroup at great length. The plane ticket is irrelevant! Go for what ever fits your budget. (Note: this means it is not required to have a round trip ticket when entering on a K1 visa)
