Hi everyone. I have an active I-130 application that I filed for my parents July 2019 for their IR5 at the Texas Service Center

  • Case status on my.uscis.gov says "February 14, 2020  In Process Your benefit request has been accepted and is under review"
  • Case status on egov.uscis.gov says "Case Was Received and A Receipt Notice Was Emailed On July 15, 2019, we received your Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative and mailed you a receipt notice"

My [small] business has been affected by Covid-19 and I'm considering applying for the "Pandemic Unemployment assistance" and maybe an EIDL loan advance (both for California). I'm worried about how this would affect my parents I-130 application -- does anyone have opinions on this?

Applying for unemployment will not effect,  being unemployed is a totally different thing

I'm so sorry but I'm not sure I understand what either reply means 😬 I recall reading something about being a public charge that disqualifies applicants and want to make sure I understand the implications before shooting myself in the foot...

Unemployment is NOT a means tested benefit.

However,  being unemployed and not having sufficient CURRENT income, might cause you to fail the criteria to be a qualified sponsor

YMMV
