Both my fiance and I are single (i.e. never married before). The FAQ from this website (visaJourney) does not list "Certificate of being single" as a required item for K1 petition. However, I read somewhere else online, indicating that at least my fiance needs to get a notorized certificate of being single.

Can someone who has already filed I-129F tell me if this is required? If it is required, do I need it as well? If so, where can I get it? Thanks!

You don't need a "certificate of being single" for the fiancee visa. Just make sure you BOTH state that you are single, free to marry, and will do so within 90 days of entering the US.

The certificate is only needed when you plan to marry in some foreign countries, before the marriage actually occurs.

I know that a CENOMAR (certificate of no marriage) is required at the interview stage at the Manila Embassy. Where is your fiancee?

Accuracy is usually better than speed. You don't need a certificate of single status to file a petition but US Consulates in most (perhaps even all) Countries require (at interview) some sort of government certification the visa applicant is currently single. This is not required of the US Citizen because they must satisfy the local jurisdiction in which the US marriage will take place. If not, no marriage and K1 visa holder goes home.

depends on the beneficiary country. in the Philippines, the US Embassy in Manila requires a CENOMAR (Certificate of No Marriage) which can be acquired from the National Statistics Office. From where is your fiancee? would be better if you could add more information to your profile so we can address your questions properly. ;)

My fiance is in China. Will she need a CERNOMAR? Does anyone know? Thanks.

My husband, a Cdn citizen, did NOT need this certification when we went through the K1 process. I'm sure there are a few, but I wouldn't go so far as to say ALL consulates need this documentation at the interview.

Yes, a similar document is required for K1 applicants in China. Like the police report and other official Chinese documents, she'll need a Notarial Translation of the document. We married in China, so I don't know exactly how the document is obtained. Perhaps Dan and Yu will see this and reply with the details but for more China specific information and support, suggest you go to http://www.candleforlove.com

pushbrk,

My sense, from the anecdotal evidence that I've seen, is that relatively few consulates require such a certification and when they do ask for one it's because there is something about the case to indicate that a person may not be single (never married) as claimed.

My sense from a different set of evidence is that they tend to be required in countries where they can be obtained. Those tend to be the same countries that would require a similar document from a foreigner before marriage in their country. So, if they require them, they are also able to produce them. Fortunately, our Consulates tend not to require official government documents that are impossible to obtain from legitimate government sources in the countries they serve.

In China it is called a Notarial certificate of marriageability and is available at the notarial office, the same place where birth cert, and even police certs are available.

Your profile needs to show foreign country, and you need to start a timeline, this additional data would have gotten better answers, if people saw these details they would answer the questions better, Pushbrk is a China expert, and not having the details even through him off at first.
