Do I need to wait to file I-129F till my fianceé goes home?

Hey all and thanks in advance for the help,

 

So my fiancee is currently living here in the US, on a J-1 visa. It expires in May. We have been dating for the past year and got engaged last month. We want to do everything as above board as possible, so plan on filing for a K-1 and then having her come back. My question is: Do we have to wait till she is back in her home country of Peru before we start the visa process?

No need to wait.   Have you considered getting married now and staying together?

We have talked about it extensively, and both feel we need some time before we make that commitment.

Well filing a K1 does require a commitment first so file as soon as you have that.

Getting a Fiance Visa isn't for figuring out if you want to make that commitment either.   File when you guys know.

Sorry let me rephrase that. We know we want to get married. We have signed oaths of engagement with out church. But financially, I would like to be in a better place before we get married. We are strictly religious, so want to be prepared for any "plus one"s that come our way. Its not a question of "if".
