My reading of this doc & it's accompanying instructions is that the only support docs I need supply are a birth cert & a tax transcript for my most recent year.  All other docs are either optional, voluntary or at the specific request of a government employee.  Have I missed something?

If your current income is higher than your recent tax reporting, I would certainly include evidence to support that higher level.  If you are using assets to supplement income, you must show evidence of those assets.  Personally, I would include current income evidence if not self-employed.  Current income is king.  Tax returns prove what was filed in the past...good luck!

March 21, 2023:   Wife's Passport Delivered!!!!

May 15, 2023 (about):  Naturalization Certificate returned from Passport agency!!

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Yes, I see your point.  I can easily provide some current pay stubs to supplement my tax transcript so I will.  Thanks for pointing that out.  I have no need to include assets and so I think the birth cert covers me.

I am unemployed currently and was not working for a long time for few years at a stretch.

Only for a brief period of few weeks I was working in 2019 (not most recent year) and have attached W2 and also pay stubs which does contain the hourly rate and total pay with i864.

However, when I was working, I was earning reasonably well to support all applicants.

I have used joint sponsor whose income is more than sufficient for sponsoring all applicants

Due to above reasons, I have mentioned intended annual income as ZERO as even though I am looking for a job, I do not know when it will materialize and also do not want to provide a guess in absence of any proof or the fact that I was not working for a long time and have not filed tax returns and provided explanation for same.

Does mentioning intended annual income as ZERO have any negative implications if joint sponsor has sufficient income with proof to support all applicants.

Thanks

You answered the current income question absolutely correctly. Of course, the Consulate Officers consider many factors when making a determination, but you listed your income correctly.  You can always carry an updated I-864 after you are employed again...good luck.
