Dan Brown CLAIMS it's based on fact, but then Clive Cussler could easily make a similar claim for "Polar Shift".

true, the Elders of zion was written in czarist russia as a way to blame the jews for turmoil in the country..still believed today by many there..some muslims...chopf##k racist the world-wide...

Plus, another, more recent presentation as "fact" was the Godhra train fire in 2002.

The VHP claimed as "fact" that Muslim miscreants had gotten into the coaches, poured kerosene/petrol and then burnt the coaches--and this DID incite riots leading to several thousand (about 75% Muslim) deaths. Of course the "Muslim miscreants" were never found--for the obvious reason that they didn't exist (a recent investigation showed that the fire started INSIDE the coaches (whether due to electrical fault, or passenger attempt to cook their own meal).

the theory by which Brown took the idea from is presented as fact by the authors of the book holy blood holy grail. It's not Brown's claim that should be taken with a lorry-load of salt as you say, but the authors of the other book. Brown has only claimed that he took the theory from a book that was presented as fact. You bolding my words only makes it look as if you think I'm saying Brown is presenting it as fact. He is not.

Fiction... A good thriller, disappointing ending... kept me entertained... I would like to think Jesus was married but...who knows, since I believe the whole Jesus thing is a myth from other myths..

Saw a good movie.. The God who Wasn't There explains more myths...

I am looking forward to the movie, think the whole suing plagerism thing was a crock as the writers who are suing Dan Brown are just mad that they aren't getting any royalties from his Best Seller...

The Da Vinci Code is interesting because its single-handedly spawned a whole tourist industry. Many of the places cited in the book now run Da Vinci Code tours, which apparently pisses off a lot of historians because much of the history in the book is apparently inaccurate.

What it is I think is that a lot of people have accepted the historical aspects of the book as fact, when in reality, the jury is still very much out among the many historians.

That said, I haven't read the book - although I did read Angels and Demons. The last line pretty much did it for me. If you've read it, you'll know what I mean. It was pretty nauseating...

Like Rch said, the Da Vinci Code appears to be very similar to Angels and Demons. There was a lot of stuff in the movie trailer that was right out of the earlier novel (they both start with weird ritualistic murders, there's a character in a wheelchair, a mysterious assassin prowling around etc.). Guy is clearly following a formula.

On at least ONE of his "source info's", the jury is NOT out: that of the Dead Sea scrolls being found in 1945 (reality 1947, by a bedouin shepherd) and representing "alternate gospels" (all of the DS Scrolls are of Old Testament books--and match closely to Hebrew texts of the same books written 900 years later).

The Goddess is A Foot.....

I'd like to believe in a divine feminine/masculine working together rather than that scary old man up there on his throne throwing down lightning bolts on the sinners.

Although today, having a religious experience while driving made me pray several thank you's to who ever was up there looking out for me, or it may have been a head on collision and I may have been through the windshield.....
