Hello VJ users,

At the moment I'm in the process of ROC. I filed my I-175 in september and have received my physical copy of my 18 month extension notice. My 2 year conditional Green Card would have expired on 12/26/19. With the 18 month extension it will approximately valid up to late June 2021, am I correct?

I've received several email form VJ with an estimate of approval of my permanent Green Card which is sometime in October or November 2020. I'm not holding my breath, but I'd use it as a point of reference.

My Indonesian passport will expire on 16 November 2020.

Now my question is, how will this soon-to-be-expired passport play out with my I-751 application? When I renew my passport I will be given a totally new passport number. If I renew my passport before I get my Green Card will it affect or create any complications with my I-751?

Has anyone here been through or experience something similar? Please advise.

THANK YOU. and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

From the USCIS side of things, you shouldn't have any problems or issues. They don't care about your passport now, and renewing your passport will not complicate your application.

That being said, you might have some challenges when renewing your Indonesian passport. If you renew it here in the USA, you'll have to provide proof to the consulate you're a legal US resident. Since you're a GC holder, that means providing them your GC. Since it is expired, hopefully they'll be satisfied with the accompanying letter. I mean they should be, but you never know. When my wife renewed her passport, she had some difficulties with the consulate here in SF even though her conditional green card had not yet expired. I don't recall the details (it was 3 years ago), but it reminded her what she didn't miss about Indonesia...

USMSBOW you're always resourceful!!

Yes, I'm planning to renew mine at the Indonesian embassy in Los Angeles in July 2020. I read through their website to see what are the requirements. On paper it seems pretty straightforward, but from having 21+ years experience of dealing with Indonesia's bureaucracy I'm almost certain the actual process is not going to be straightforward.

I will start writing / making call to the embassy after the new year. Hopefully it'll be a painless process.

Thank you for your response.

Have a great Thanksgiving and Holiday.
