Here’s my issue I sent my wife’s I 751 in mid October, according to USPS the package got lost in their system. After arguing with USPS I was advised to send it again, so that’s what I did. Well I received a receipt notice from USCIS via text and they received my original one apparently and are sending a receipt notice. So the question is what should I do about the second copy I sent in? Obviously I don’t want them to cash the check twice

Ask your bank to put a stop payment on the check.

When USCIS is unable to cash the check, they will reject the entire package and send it back to you.

just an fyi acc to I-751 instructions...

 

Notice to Those Making Payment by Check. If you send us a check, USCIS will convert it into an electronic funds
transfer (EFT). This means we will copy your check and use the account information on it to electronically debit your
account for the amount of the check. The debit from your account will usually take 24 hours and your bank will show it
on your regular account statement.
You will not receive your original check back. We will destroy your original check, but will keep a copy of it. If USCIS
cannot process the EFT for technical reasons, you authorize us to process the copy in place of your original check. If your
check is returned as unpayable, USCIS will re-submit the payment to the financial institution one time. If the check is
returned as unpayable a second time, we will reject your petition and charge you a returned check fee.

 

 

Question: When they process the second application, would USCIS see that they've already received an application under the same applicant name? Just curious....

It is possible but I personally don’t think so, that process is done by contractors that prepare the files and process payments. 

In your case it will make no difference if they “see” that you have an existing case as you know you do and have receipt. I would call them and with your info they should be able to see your receipt number, explain the situation and then after verifying which of the 2 checks was cashed put a stop payment on the other one. 

Do this asap, after they process the second check that money is gone for good even if you request to withdraw it.
