Filling out I-130 for CR1. Confused about previous petitions?

Hi! So I'm filing a  CR1 for my wife, and I'm hung up on Part 5 Question 1:

"Have you EVER previously filed a petition for this beneficiary or any other alien?"

I did get married once before to a girl on a tourist visa. To my recollection we applied for an I-485 for her. We were accepted. Long story short, we divorced, but she still wanted to lift the conditions off of her residency. This is where my recollection gets fuzzy. She had to apply for that herself, but I do recall having to vouch for her. Now, the I-485 is an application, not a petition. But I'm not quite sure if I had any role in something that could be labeled a petition after the I-485. My inclination is no, but I'm not sure! And I really don't want to goof. What's the best way to be sure if neither my ex-wife nor I remember precisely?

With the exwife on a tourist visa, you would have filed a i-130 for her concurrently along with the i-485...which is a petition.

The answer is YES.

Thanks so much. Do you know a way I can answer the next question then, "date of filing"? Suppose I don't remember.

if you don't remember at all, put "unknown"...

 

if you remember at least the year---then put just the year.

Ok, I will try that if I can't find out. Would that significantly alter my chances to know the date? Also! For filing town... should I write the town I mailed it from? Or where I mailed it to?

No it doesn't make it any faster/easier/better on you if you know the date----USCIS can find the information easily enough through your name in their back files.

Where you mailed it to or where it was processed is fine.  Do the best you can on the date.  Surely you can recall the season and the year.  You could hand write summer of 42 etc. 😉  I loved that movie.
