USCIS London Consulate - Closing timeline

Hi all,

I'm just at the start of my visa journey and in the next couple of weeks will be filing for my I-130, most probably with the London Consulate as my fiancé (USC) is a permanent resident of the UK with dual American citizenship .

Is there any timeline of when the London office will cease to exist? If we were to submit our application now, what would happen if the office was to close before receiving approval and visa?

Thanks in advance!

A fiancé can’t file an I-130 for you, you have to be legally married.

The London embassy isn’t closing, just the overseas field office of USCIS. This will be sometime between now and August next year with no actual date set yet. USCIS is only involved in the first stage, which is the petition. The sooner you get married and get your petition to USCIS, the better if you want to

use the faster London field office route.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

Thanks JFH, apologies I should have mentioned we will likely marry immediately following my fiancé receiving her formal offer of employment (which is expected today) from her new company in the States (the reason we are moving).

This is helpful thank you again.

They infer that most uscis foreign field offices will close by march 2020.

YMMV
