Parents' birth dates unknown

Hi Everyone,

I am helping my friend filling out I-130 and stuck at the beneficiary's father date of birth. The beneficiary knows the year that her father (deceased) was born but she does not know the month or the day. We are wondering what the best way would be to address this on the part of the form that asks for her father date of birth? Father's birth certificate showed only the date.

Thanks

It is very common in Vietnam and the consulate sees this every day.  For my wife's parents, we wrote ??/??/1954 and ??/??/1952.  No problem or questions on any of the paperwork. - Jason

Hello,

I just learned that we can now file the I130 online and opted for that route that because I had a very positive experience with filing my N-400.  While filing out information about my parents, the system requires that I enter both their DOBs and doesn't not allow input for ??.   I put in 1/1/1970 so that at least the year is correct.  Does anyone have the same experience or any input as to how to work around this?

Thanks!

Quynh

Many people did that and I don't hear any problems arise from them. Your parents can ask for new BC reissued from So Tu Phap but make sure the registration date is the same as the original one.

On my wife's I-129f packet, her father's exact birthdate is unknown.  We just made up a month and day, and then in the back of the application added an explanation.
