Still waiting on SSN, did we mess up?

Hi All,

My wife and I filed for her Adjustment of Status on July 23rd 2019, and got the notice they received it a few weeks after. We have used RapidVisa (wouldn't have had I known how much information is available from a simple search) and while filling out the worksheets for the I-485 and I-765 we checked the option to have them provide a SSN via the application.

I am seeing other suggestions that we should have sought out an SSN separately at a local office with her I-94 (which is now expired as of the 9/11)

I sent in a request to the USCIS office about this but since there doesn't seem to be a good contact method for them I am at the whim of their support system, which noted my case was still within normal processing times, so that inquiry will probably get mostly ignored.

What are our options now?  Should we just sit back and wait?  Was hoping to have it by now so we could look into getting her a local bank account and a drivers license.

Thanks,

Eric

Wait.  EAD will probably complete by end of December or January.   If you are lucky,  maybe the GC will complete faster (depending on where you live)

I am seeing now that we shouldn't expect the SSN until a few weeks after getting approved for the EAD.  Crisis averted I guess!

Thanks,

Eric

Personally I would've want my SSN asap after entry as there are quite a few things it's needed for. But others prefer to wait and apply through the i-765 form. It's up to you, it's not a "mess up", it'll just take a lot longer doing it the way you chose to do it, that's all.
