Well that's exactly right... if you look at timelines you will see that sometimes people get their GC in 2 months and some 2 years... All depends on if you get RFE, how long your Name Check takes, how busy either your local office is or the service center.

Filed: Timeline
How long does it take to receive the GC after you apply for AOS? I've seen some timelines where it took 3 months and others more than a year, so i'm confused, and a little worried.

Thank you.

Do not be. I had ma interview on May 2,2007 and had my GC on June 3,2007. I think it took that length of time cos in between these dates, I have to submit some docs to the field office. So just relax and once u go for the interview and all is well, u will get the GC within days and u will be smiling like I am. God bless.

Timeline

No one can tell you when you'll receive your green card. The time frame varies like the wind. Where one person can say "Oh I got my GC in a couple months" there will be another one that says "It took almost a year" and still there are some waiting even now, over two years later. There really isn't anything to be nervous about. You file, you wait for the NOA1, you wait some more. You will either get transferred to CSC or you will get an interview date. If, in between all this wait time you get an RFE (again, nothing to worry about) you merely submit the requested information even if you've already submitted it and processing will continue on your AOS.

No. Some people have their interview fairly quickly and are still stuck in namechecks for years. Look at this very long thread full of people who were/are in this situation: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6694

Basically, there's no way of telling. Could be 2 months, could be 2 years or more. No matter what country you're from, how common or uncommon your name is, no matter what part of the country you're from, if you have an interview or if you're transferred to a different office...it's entirely up in the air. It's why applying for EAD and AP is always a good idea so you're not sitting at home twiddling your thumbs until you get the coveted green card.

No one knows how long it will take to get the green card, so you would be wise to apply for an EAD at the same time.

We submitted our paperwork in January '07, did not have an RFE, attended our interview in March and were told everything was fine and would be approved as soon as the FBI name check came through. Now it is June and we have not heard a thing.

I hope your wait is not as long as ours has been.
