NVC case number assigned, how do I change the embassy?

After a long wait we finally I received an email with the NVC case and invoice numbers.

Unfortunately NVC assigned our case to the wrong consulate in Madrid, Spain. My wife has moved back to Ukraine since I submitted the I-130. In March I sent a request to USCIS to change the consulate, but I guess it didn't help.

I found a few old threads on this topic, I suspect that info may not be current anymore.

Does anyone have any recent experience changing the consulate after the NVC case number is assigned?

You can email the NVC and ask them to change to new location. They'll need proof that you can reside legally in the new country including your residential address and phone number

Thank you. Do you know if it's going to delay our case?

Have her call Kyiv Embassy and request a case transfer. Kyiv Embassy has to do it. They are pretty good about answering phone.

Thanks. I thought I'd have to request a transfer, if our case were already sent to Madrid? But it's still at NVC, we just received the case number.

Yes it will delay the case a bit as the NVC will put your case under administrative processing once you request the change and they won't review your submitted civil docs until the location change has been sorted.

Mine took about 3 weeks delay
