AP but no case number?

Hi, 

 

I am a little confused about the current status of the CR1 case for my husband. Our I-130 was approved by USCIS on a May 31, 2019 and sent to NVC, who received it on June 19, 2019. We have yet to receive a case number, but I know it can take up to 8 weeks. I saw some people received their case number whose case was received by the NVC on 6/26/19, so I thought I’d call again and see if there were any updates. When I called today, the operator said the case has no number assigned and is in administrative processing (AP). I asked if this meant I am just still waiting for a case number. She couldn’t explain what this meant and said she had no information on it.

 

I’ve seen some scary things about AP at the consular level, but I’ve never heard it used in the context of a case at the NVC that has yet to be assigned a case number. 

 

Does anyone have any information or advice on this? I’ve scoured the NVC forums and other immigration sites and just can’t seem to find anything.

"Administrative Processing" can mean many things.......such as the time while being entered into the system........It took our case 6 weeks to be entered and an email sent from NVC..........I don't think there is a problem yet..........

Thanks for your quick reply — good to know AP case also mean the time required for being entered into the system.

I think it usually means something quite different at the consular level.......but at the NVC level, it just makes sense to me that the FIRST action is to enter the case into their system and assign a case number.......
