Hi everybody!!

Quick question:  we got legally married on July 1, 2018 received the certified marriage certificate 2 days later. I would like to change my canadian passport to my married name however I am not sure if I can because of the K1 Visa/I-94 attached to it. So basically am I able to do this?

Quick Note: I already sent in the AOS, EAD and AP waiting for NOA1 (on these documents I used my new last name)

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I would wait until the 90 days has lapsed bc Canada makes you send in the originals.  Make sure when you mail it, you specifically request them to send back the old one (they’ll holepunch it to void it).

That should have said 2019!

I will definitely wait then!

Thank you!

I didn’t even notice the 18.  I read it as 19.

Also, I ran into difficulty finding somewhere that would do the picture.  Canada is special and doesn’t just “change a name” it’s a whole brand new application.  US passport photo requirements are slightly different.  Walgreens/Rite Aid/CVS couldn’t do the Canadian sized ones.  I had to call until I found a camera store (mom and pop) that could do it, and knew the stamp requirement too.
