Must beneficiary receive P3 and P4 in person, or can it be a family member?

Our K1 case status at the NVC changed from "In Transit" to "Ready" yesterday, so we're expecting EMS to send the P3 some time soon in the next 1-2 weeks.

Thing is, my fiancee and I may be out of town when it arrives. Question is, can fiancee's mother be the one to receive the package in hand from EMS instead of my fiancee herself?

In fact, the address listed for my fiancee on the original I-129F form (which I assume is what EMS uses when they deliver the packages) is her mother's address, since my fiancee did not have a permanent address at the time. And we know that EMS has her phone number as well, so assuming they call her on the phone when they're ready to deliver the package, can she instruct the delivery person to deliver it to her mother?

The reason I ask is that this VJ thread (in Chinese) states that the P3 must be received by the beneficiary him/herself. However, this is just one person's advice, and we don't know if it's authoritative or not.

It likely depends on the EMS courier. I think technically EMS requires a signature from the recipient, but in practice they may require a signature of any individual. I believe my Fiancee had EMS deliver the package to her building mail room and she did not sign herself. In China sometimes things are in the gray area rather than black and white like the US.

I suggest calling EMS if you need an official answer as to their policies, but should be fine.

Your beneficiary will get a call.   She tells courier what to do.  In my case, courier was on the way to her parents place but she doesnt want her parents worry anything and so redirected to her condo apt, and I met the courier downstairs as I was visiting.    So address and recipient all different....
