Signing Citizenship Certificate

Hubby got his certificate. Signed it with his normal signature first which is his last name with a squiggle in front of last name. We then read it had to be a complete first, middle, and last name. There was plenty of space for him to sign first and middle name. But the last name looks weird with the squiggle in front of it. Will this cause problems?

The paper that came with the certificate says if you haven't signed it properly with first, middle, and last name it will render it invalid. Being as there is a fancy squiggle before last name will that mess things up making it invalid?

A fancy squiggle is not going to mess anything up.  As you mentioned in your first post, that's part of his normal signature.

My signature on my certificate is my first initial super-imposed into my last name.  It's my normal signature.  Not an issue.

Yes that's what he originally was going for but the paper that came with it says : "Your Naturalization certificate is not valid until you sign it. You must sign your certificate, in cursive, on the line indicated using your full and complete name, exactly as it appears on your photo and certificate. DO NOT USE INITIALS. USE ONLY BLACK INK. Failure to properly sign your certificate will render it INVALID. "

Does the signature match the signature on his picture? If yes he's fine.

I never got a paper with mine directing me how to sign it---was just told "sign it"...the signature on the certificate is not going to cause him any problems.  If the only thing he's going to use that certificate for, anyhow, is getting a US passport----the signature is not going to affect that.

 

If his signature on the certificate is his "normal everyday signature" that he's been using with USCIS all the while---then there's really no issues.

Ha I didn't notice that till I looked at the certificate!! His normal signature is a squiggle in front of his last name. But the instructions say he has to write first and middle name as well. There was room to fit that in, in front of the original signature that is just his last name. It jsit looks kind of weird.

Well it will be his normal signature with his first and middle name written before it. Looks weird but it's legible.

I want to see this paper with directions. I haven't gotten one with mine. They issued me a passport without issues. Is he going to apply for his US passport soon? Congrats again! Stop worrying about the signature and go out for dinner and celebrate 🎈

When I have time I'll take a picture of it and post it here. He's going to update his social security record after 10 days like they instructed and then apply for his US passport because he will need to send the original certificate with it.

That's interesting---never got a letter with mine when I did my oath.  He's fine though, as you said (and as the letter indicates) the signature matches the one he used on the photo.
