Hello everyone!

So we are about to start our CR1 journey very soon & will need all the help I can get.

I have downloaded and filled out all the forms required. I was curious if I had to update my passport before applying for the visa? I’m the beneficiary & it might be the case everywhere or not, married girls have a husbands name section on their passports with their husbands name under it. I’m confused. Thank you!

If you want your green card to be in your "married" name then yes you should update your passport before interview.  You have some time.

I’m not planning on changing my name. Just curious if I have to update my passport where my status changes from single to married & fathers name section will be replaced by husbands name. ?

Not sure as that's country specific.

As far as the US immigration process is concerned, it will have no effect since you are not planning to change your name........but updating the passport for people who do plan a name change, makes the process much smoother.  Just ask those who have mistakenly booked flight tickets in the Green Card name rather than their passport name....
