Health Insurance, can't get on wife's coverage

Hello everybody. I was approved in my K1 visa interview two weeks ago and I'm getting ready for the big move. One thing that concerns me is health insurance. My soon to be wife works as a Chef and has no benefits whatsoever from her employer, she's still on her parent's coverage and I can't get on that one (we checked). I read a lot of old posts in this Forum about the topic but couldn't seem to put together the best course of action for someone in a situation like mine.

 

Essentially, I want to be covered until I get my worker's permit and hopefully get a job that provides health insurance. There seemed to be a general consensus that travel insurance would not be suitable because it wouldn't meet the conditions required to avoid the tax penalty, which is no longer a thing as of this year. That being said, is travel health insurance now a possibility in this case? Or the fact that this is not a travel situation disregards it completely?

 

I also found some providers like Patriot America that claim to offer insurance for K1 visa holders, I just can't figure out if those are only valid for the time when you haven't yet got married or valid for as long as you purchase it for.

 

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, if I failed to see a post that could possibly answer these questions I apologize in advance and I'd be thankful if someone could point me in its direction.

You can't use travel insurance as you are not traveling, but immigrating.

 

When my husband came over, we had about 2 months before he could be on mine (my company didn't consider immigration a life-changing event, so I had to add him at the start of the calendar year).  We used einsurance.com to compare available plans for the 2 months that he needed to be covered.
