SS NUMBER FROM I-765 FORM

Hello VJ community !

My wife finally received her EAD/AP combo card.

In the I-765 application form, she asked to have a SS number issued to her .

It has been two weeks since she received her EAD/AP combo card, when will she get her SS card?

Should we wait another week or two for the SS number to be mailed to her from SSA or should I take her to a local SSA office.

I just worry if we go to the SSA office and apply for her SS number/card that things will get mixed up or messy.

What should we do ?

Also, my wife's daughter is 7 years old and we would also like for her to get a SS number , but the SSA office told us that she can't get a SS number until she gets her green card.

Can my wife's daughter get a SS number if and when my wife gets her SS number ?

They came here on K-1 and K-2 visa.

I need for them to have SS numbers so I can file taxes, I already filed for an extension .

Thanks for your advice and thoughts !

I suggest to call your local SSA and see if they can help you locate your wife’s SSN application. After a week of waiting for my ssn to arrive, I decided to call the nearest ssa office to is and the woman directed me to a social security card center that we have here in Sacramento and the lady I talked too was able to locate my application and told me that a number has been issued and I should get it in a week. When your wife call make sure she has her EAD card because they need some info from there to look up her case.

K2 visa holders can only obtain SSN with a valid EAD or work permit. Since her daughter is 7 and obviously doesn't need an EAD she does have to wait for the green card to come in.

Did you look into an ITIN for her daughter? You can use that for her instead of SSN for now to file taxes.
