N400 APRIL 2019 FILERS

Hello, 

 

It is my great pleasure to announce I have become a citizen of the United States of America. The ceremony was awesome. There were 175 new citizens from 55 different countries. There was the Oath of Allegiance and a short video clip from Donald Trump, welcoming the new citizens. After the ceremony, we were handed over our certificates. We were supposed to check them to make sure the info was correct and then sign them. At the end, I registered to vote as well. All in all, it felt surreal.

I am starting to file n400 online now. I have been lawful permanent resident since Feb 2014 (5+ years), married to a U.S. citizen spouse since 2012.

Came across this question..

What is your basis for eligibility?

 

I am at least 18 years of age and have been a lawful permanent resident of the United States for at least 5 years.

 

I am at least 18 years of age and have been a lawful permanent resident of the United States for at least 3 years. In addition, I have been married to and living with a U.S. citizen spouse for the last 3 years, and my spouse has been a U.S. citizen for the last 3 years at the time I filed my Form N-400.

 

Which option should I select? Seems like both options hold true in my scenario.

Hi Numii,

I had the same thing (was eligible for either option). I went with 5 years, because people told me I wouldn't need to submit as much evidence then, and my spouse wouldn't necessarily have to come with me for the interview. I am not sure if that is really true though - I have yet to find out. I guess I will see once I get an interview. You are definitely eligible for both and could choose either one. You can check if this subject has been discussed in the general discussion forum too. Good luck!

But, why do I feel sad knowing that I’m not a citizen of the country I was born in and grew up at? I know eventually I can apply for dual citizenship, but now, it’s like partly sad feelings.

Congratulations on becoming a citizen!!! Why aren't you a citizen of your home country anymore? Does your country not allow it, because many countries don't take away your citizenship just because you became an American citizen? Anyway, I can understand your sadness if you really lost citizenship of your original country. I hope that is not the case. Big Congrats on becoming part of a new country though:-D

Another Q guys..

Any idea on how to provide employment history?

Back in 2014/2015, I received both W2's and 1099. How should I provide this information? Also Do I write selfemployed, and my home address ?

 

Looks like overlapping dates can't be enter.

Anyone else had the same situation?

Another question on providing traffic tickets:

1. Do we need to mention about Speed camera tickets? - one with your car license plate picture, and sent to your house.

2. I have a traffic ticket from 2009, for illegal U turn at red light.  I am confused about the below questions. I know q23 is YES, but others not sure.

 

• Q 22:  Have you Ever committed, assisted in committing, or attempted to commit , a crime or offense for which you were NOT arrested? Y/N
•  
• Q 23: Have you ever been arrested, cited or detained by any law enforcement officer for any reason? YES
•  
• Q 24: Have you ever been charged with committing, attempting to commit, or assisting in committing a crime or offense ? Y/N
•  
• Q 25: HAVE YOU EVER BEEN CONVICTED OF A CRIME OR OFFENSE? Y/N

Numii, these are questions you can find answers to in the general citizenship discussion threads - or start a new thread there. Your question will be seen by many more people there, not only by us April 2019 filers. I had several different jobs at one time, and I just put an entry for each one. There are threads specific to traffic violations somewhere in the forum too, I'm sure someone there had an almost identical situation to yours. Good luck!
