I realize that Bernie is touting this as progressive, but it could really backfire on him depending on how cooperative the union is with collective bargaining, and how they view volunteers.  This could be really expensive.

Bernie Sanders’ staffers unionize in first for presidential campaign

Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 2020 campaign announced Friday it will be the first major presidential campaign to have a unionized workforce, as party activists push Democratic candidates to mirror their progressive platforms within their own campaigns.

“Bernie Sanders is the most pro-union candidate in the field, he’ll be the most pro-union president in the White House and we’re honored that his campaign will be the first to have a unionized workforce,” Sanders’ campaign manager, Faiz Shakir, said in a statement.

Over the past week, a majority of the staff’s bargaining unit employees designated United Food and Commercial Workers Local 400 to represent them. The campaign stayed neutral during organizing efforts and voluntarily recognized the union once a majority of staffers signed union cards, according to both the campaign and the union.

A Union Man's Dog

Four workers were discussing how smart their dogs were.  The first worker was an engineer who said that his dog could do math with calculators.  His dog was named T-Square, and the engineer told him to get some paper and draw a square, a circle, and a triangle, which the dog did with no sweat. The accountant claimed that his dog was smarter.  His dog was named Sliderule.  The accountant told him to fetch a dozen cookies, bring them back, and divide them into piles of three, which the dog did with no problem.  The chemist said that that was good, but he believed his dog to be even smarter.  His dog was named Measure.  The chemist told him to get a quart of milk and pour seven ounces into a ten-ounce glass.  The dog did this with no problem.

All three men agreed that this was very good and that their dogs were equally smart.  They all turned to the union member and asked, "What can your dog do?"  The union member called his dog, whose name was Coffeebreak, and said, "Show the fellows what you can do."  Coffeebreak went over and ate the cookies, drank the milk, pooped on the paper, humped the other three dogs and claimed that he injured his back while doing so, filed a grievance for unsafe working conditions, applied for Worker's Compensation, and left for home on paid Sick Leave.
