PPD & The process

We are part of an expat support mom group.  We try and support each other with things like not having help from family, starting a family away from your home and things like childcare & mat leave (most of us come from places where there’s at least 6-12 months of patenity leave).

Anywho... this mom is having a hard time.  She’s in the process of ROC/Naturalization.  She is also battling PPD.  In the midst of one of her dark moments, she was recommended to try CBD.  At that point, she was pretty desperate to feel at least partcially “herself” and decided to try.  She went to a legal store, in hopes to try, and purchased an item.  Tried it at home, decided she didn’t like it and never went back.  She purchased from a legal store in a legal state.

She is now worried that this may come back to bite her.  That it was a stupid decision to try but she really did not want to be on perscription meds.

I’m not sure what to tell her.  I don’t want to trigger the PPD because I’ve gone through it too... and I know how bad it can be.  She’s struggling as is and now is feeling completely stupid and worried she has jeopardized her family.

* please no mom shaming.  She gets she made a bad judgement call.  Post partum depression is NO joke... it can get very dark in the best of times.

Thank you for your time

I advise her to seek PROFESSIONAL help from her family doctor....ASAP........there are some good meds out there which can be used temporarily as prescribed by a PROFESSIONAL.

She was afraid because of the mental health stigma in her culture.  I’ve suggested that and she is finally going but hasn’t gone to her first appointment yet.

Thank you
