Hello everyone,

Last year or so I was exploring the option of filing N400 online, I remember going through series of questions, and at the end I got message saying I wasn't eligible to file online. I was checking now the same option and I didn't get these questions, is it open for everyone now?

My 2nd question is does the online processing time varies from the n400 application submitted by mail? How is it calculated? Is the processing time online is the same as by mail given what state are you filing from?

If I file online, do I still get any notification by mail? Or USCIS will just use the portal?

Thank you

The immigration process caused me PTSD.

They might have re-ordered and/or re-worded the series of questions since a year ago, but yes, there are still a series of questions you need to answer before they check your eligibility and allow you to go forward with the application. This is all handled online. You'll know immediately if you qualify after you click submit to the final question.

The processing times online or by mail are the same. The processing times are dictated by the local office to which it is assigned. Some offices are all caught up and process the applications within a couple of months, others are as much as 18 months behind. Google "USCIS processing times" and you can find a site to estimate your local office processing time for N400 applications.

Some notices you will only receive via email and the USCIS portal. Other notices such as the interview or ceremony notices will be sent by mail and available through the portal.
