Hi everyone...

It's a little early on for me to be filling in the I-134. Me and my Fiancee are still in the beginning stages of filing for the K1. That being said, I'll be moving soon to a different state for a new job.

On the form, there is a space to include the value of stocks and bonds. Does this include mutual funds that are in a 401K or Roth IRA?

Is there anything from my old job that I should get? I had my supervisor write a short letter on the companies letter head stating my position, that it is full time, when I started and what my salary is. It will be slightly out of date though since I will have a different job and a different salary.

What about old W-2s? I have from 2006, 2005 and 2003 but can't seem to find from 2004.

Should I get a statement from my bank stating when my account was opened? I will probably be closing this though when I open a new checking account with what ever bank I use at my new place.

Any input would be appreciated.

If possible I would suggest that you get a letter from your future employer. Stating when you are to start and what your agreed upon salary is. If you report it on the form, you need to show documentation to support it, But if your income by itself is suffcient, then you dont need to show much else. But considering that you will be between jobs for a bit, it might help that to show that you have other means of support.

If you need the 2004 return, you can request a tax transcript from the IRS.

I would actually contact the consulate in Thailand, explain your situation and ask them what type of documentation would be best. I-134 is not legally binding, nor is it used by all consulates. Some consulates might want 3 years of tax returns while others are fine with one. Contact the consulate in Thailand and see what they want.

I (and many here) did not include this information - if your salary exceeds the minimum requirement, then listing further income/assets will likely not be necessary - what you chose to reveal to is up to you.

Is there anything from my old job that I should get? It wouldn't be a bad idea to include this with your I-134 and get one from your new position also. It's probably unnecessary (the old job letter) but why not?

What about old W-2s? I have from 2006, 2005 and 2003 but can't seem to find from 2004.

For most Embassies/Consulates you'll only need last year's (2006) Return - but assuming it's necessary/desired - it might be a good idea to order your IRS transcripts - check www.irs.gov because with these, you won't need w-2 or other supporting documents (just the transcripts)

Should I get a statement from my bank stating when my account was opened? I will probably be closing this though when I open a new checking account with what ever bank I use at my new place.

See above - similar to your IRA/401K question.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks for that...

I just ordered the transcripts via phone from 2003 to 2006. My fiancee seen conflicting information. Some said only the past year was needed, others said up to 3 years. Better to be safe and have it now, then to have to wait 2 weeks when I really need it.

I appreciate the input.

In my situation, I included my 401K, Stocks and Bonds, MRA's etc. since I was out of a job and just put down "freelance artist" as my job description. As stated though, if your future salary is enough to past the minimum requirement you don't need all of the above.

You can request a letter from your future employer stating that you are to be hired and what your salary would be. This is not unusual for businesses to do. I always request a letter of the sort when I transfer jobs. This is just a written agreement to what you met upon your final interview etc. I always get one in case I quit my other job and the new company changes their mind or something goes wrong - then I have a binding agreement that they have to compensate me since I'm going to be unemployed based on an offer they will now renege upon.

Only your last tax return is actually needed. If you feel like your current one may not be sufficient, bring your 2005. I only showed my 2005 and told them I filed an extension for my 2006 - which I did anyway since I was in Philippines the whole time and couldn't file my taxes yet.

Good Luck!!
