I am very new to this application process and I am quite intimidated. I have several questions.

1) What needs to be submitted as evidence? I have photos of the two of us together, but do I need anything else?

2) What needs to be said in the original statement? Is it just a short letter stating our intentions?

I'm sure I'll have other questions, but those are the main ones right now. Thanks a ton for the help.

Photos are fine, but you need evidence that you have met in the past two years. Generally the evidence would include plane tickets, copies of passport stamps showing dates of entry/departure, hotel receipts, money exchange receipts, theatre tickets or other events. If you met your fiance(ee) in America, keeping evidence can be difficult.

In your narrative about your relationship and meeting you will need to describe the time sequence so that it is verifiable by the evidence you provide. I like to tell people to describe how the two of you met as you would tell your mother. You don't have to get all lovey-dovey in the description, but don't be mechanical either. Simply state you both fell in love and want to marry and plan your futures together.

Remember to review the IMBRA items, if the two of you first had contact on the internet. Make sure you keep a complete copy of everything you will be submitting to the USCIS.

Welcome to the journey.

my guy was in America, so we didnt have much proof and i got a RFE with using only pictures. So for more evidence of meeting i sent in letters that i had 5 or 6 people sign saying that they saw us together. I also got a copy of his tax returns and mine and "Mapquest"ed the short distance between our houses. Then i also threw in some plane tickets that were from after i filed anyway. and i got approved. in case you cant think of anything like i couldnt.

Welcome to VJ! It's daunting, but do some research and ask questions if your particular circumstance isn't documented in the guides.

8-30-05 Met David at a restaurant in Germany

3-28-06 David 'officially' proposed

4-26-06 I-129F mailed

9-25-06 Interview: APPROVED!

10-16-06 Flt to US, POE Detroit

11-5-06 Married

7-2-07 Green card received

9-12-08 Filed for divorce

12-5-08 Court hearing - divorce final

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

Welcome to VJ. Some people have forgotten what its like to be a newbie. Some are usually glad to answer questions. However, it's a good idea to read the guides since they contain most of the important information. Have a read, then if there's anything you don't understand then come on back and ask away.

I remember what it was like to be the newbie too. :)
