A lot of people how had interview got "Decision can't be made" because the IO need to review  papers .my question is ,does IO review the file in same day of the interview or before?

when file move to "inline for interview" does that means IO reviewed your whole file ? so if they review the file in same day of interview or minutes before the interview  then What does this means "we are currently reviewing your file"? I just want to understand the process

I hired a lawyer when i done my AOS and he told me just before my interview The possible outcomes and what it all means. He said depending on the officer sometimes they may have a day to look at your file sometimes they dont look at it until minutes before the interview.  To not worry is fairly normal to get that as a responce of the office is super backlogged since there strapped for time

April 8th: AOS sent

April 11th: Recieved at Chicago lockbox [Day 0]

April 25th: NOA1 date (never recieved e-notifications) [Day 14]

April 29th: NOA1 hard copy recieved in the mail [Day 18]

May 9th: "Fingerprint fee recieved" [Day 28]

May 12th: Reciept number's start working on USCIS case status website [Day 31]

May 20th: Biometrics letter recieved [Day 39]

June 1st: Biometric appointment [Day 51]

November 12th: Interview letter received [Day 216]

December 1st: Interview day! APPROVED [Day 235]

December 5th: Case status changed from "fingerprint fee received" to "Approved" post dated Dec 1st [Day 239]

Received approval letter in the mail for Green card [Day 239]

It took a month for them to review my file. It seems to me that not all IO's are equal. Some can approve others might need the sign-off of a supervisor. They also might just want to review things, I'm not sure that any one know's. I had no idea going into my n400 interview that that was an option. When She told me that she was not able to make a decision that day I felt like I had been punched in the stomach. I asked why and she told me " some times this happens". Like I said it took a month for them to review my file and scheduled me for my oath. I'm not sure anyone on here know's why the only people that know what this happens are IO and they won't say.

You are not alone. Just hope that your case moves forward in a month or so. My interview was in early October 2017. i felt punched in the face when the office said she just wants to review the file.

As of today, they still haven;t made a decision. Best of luck

Hm... that's abnormal. Have you done an info-pass? Or reached out to a local senator, or CIS Ombudsman office? I think they're supposed to make a decision on your file within 120 days of your interview (e.g. 4 months).

This is extremely long, they only have 120 days, after that you can file a writ of mandamus which pretty much sues USCIS forcing them to make a decision. I think you should at least look into the USCIS Ombudsman as that is a free service and can hopefully move things along. I did my interview on Feb 14, 2018 and have done infopasses and service requests still waiting but I recently filled out the ombudsman request.

When did you put in the Ombudsman request? And have you got any response or feedback from them? That is my next step

I just did on Monday, and they have 90 days to review it so it may take a while. I have an infopass next week to go to my FO with my lawyer to see if she can get more out of them. Sometimes people just fall through the cracks and their case sits at least the ombudsman will eventually get to it and follow up with the officer that has the case and hopefully tat will spur them on to make a decision

That’s good to know. I filed an online inquiry and I’m yet to hear back. Also, my congressman reached out to them last week and they said it’s still pending. I’ll schedule an infopass if I don’t get any outcome from the online inquiry and then after file with Ombudsman. I’m trying to cover all bases

I don't even know what to do. I got a response to a service request i placed last month. Now, they have changed the response from "pending adjudication" to "pending security checks". i think i've run out of options and will be contacting Ombudsman this week. This is unacceptable

Were there any issues that came up at your interview?

Past charges or citations...maybe after filing but before interview?

Why did they move back to security checks and why could it be taking so long?

No charges...I applied under 5yr rule too. Only few traffic citations. I dont understand. so much incompetence on the part of USCIS. all i ask is for my case to move forward and be kept in the loop

Okay. Kepp the pressure to get a response on your case. I would rinse and repeat all the options until someone gives you a better response. Good Luck!
