Good Afternoon All,

I am filing for my N-400 online and it is asking for proof that I am supporting my son. Does anybody know how far back USCIS wants. I almost want to say that this is something I would rather print, but I am going the digital route this time around to hopefully save time. Thank you for all of your responses.

Bank statements, money transfers, scanned copies of checks paid out to his school or other needs, leases you may be helping with, are some good places to start.

I would go back to the last 5 years, since that is what  USCIS would ask you to account for in terms of residency.

You have a good news and bad news.

Bad news: Not paying or not having solid proof of paying child support is considered " crime involving moral turpitude". Which means Not only it bars you from gaining citizenship but also put you in lots of immigration trouble.

Good News: If you paid child support, go to the child support office and submit it to USCIS office, if you do not have proof of Paying child support through Child Support office. Go to Your baby mother, have her write a letter along with receipts of paying Health insurance, and contribution  related to child care will satisfy USCIS.

If you do not have any of these documents kiss good bye to your N400 application or withdraw it.

USCIS ignores such a letters without supporting documents, like Health insurance, child care expenses.

Letter including Checks paid to mother (Not cash), School fee, or child care or day care fee (Again check or proof of receipts by third party).

I will have the letter plus money order receipts and proof that they are for child support. I think that will be enough.

  • 1 year later...

Hello everyone.

My husband has a 24 year old daughter who is happily engaged now. Per USCIS citizenship, she is my stepchild. Do I still need to provide documents that my husband did his child support? She already moved out when I came here in US. I wouldn't be able to come to US in the first place if he had pending child support.

I need your info please. Thank you.
