We filed our I-485 months ago.  In May we received a letter asking for more documents.  We sent these documents back and they were received on June 29.  When I checked case status today, July 11,

it says were are approved for an interview.  What is this all about? I have never heard of an interview before the issuing of the temporary residency.

We live 6 hours from the uscis office. We went there in February for the fingerprints, picture, and signature.  All of a 10 minute appointment.  It is difficult to make the trip to the office again, just to be asked some repeated questions that have all ready been answered. We have given uscis every piece of information they have asked for.  I am sorry but I just don't get what is going on now with the immigration process.  It seems to me there is way to much bureaucracy and red tape and deliberate stalling.

Have you ever heard of a pre interview for a conditional green card?

Getting an interview is part of the process to get AOS. Both of you will need to attend the AOS interview together with the evidence you submitted and be prepared to answer questions about your marriage and relationship. Ours was a more extensive interview and we ended up being separated from each other and asked the same set of questions to identify irregularities. They asked about living, wedding, relationship - even the last place we went out and what we ordered. (Given the fact we live in the US, one of us got that wrong - we eat out too often to keep track). It's not a quick 10 minute appointment - it is an interview. Be prepared to talk openly and honestly about your relationship. Being separated was intimidating, but the questions were easy to answer for anyone in a healthy/normal relationship.

Yes, there are interviews before conditional green cards. Don't take this the wrong way but just because you haven't heard of it doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Recently, there was notification that all applicants going through adjustment of status will have interviews. Before there were instances where interviews were not held and they simply issued the green cards. Request for evidence and interviews are part of the process and as much as it sucks, you have to go with the flow to get what you want.

Thank You, I looked on youtube but didn't find any of the initial interview topics.  I found videos about the 2 year Permanent interview.
