I am sending my fiance all the paper work needed, what has to be original? Can I send a photocopy of my divorce or send a certified one?

I sent copies, but I have heard its better to request 3 certified copies of all official documents. One for you, one for him, and one for the embassy. Had I known that, I probebly would have sent the certified copies with my application.

I went to the courthouse and got the certified copies and sent those. Knowing my luck they wouldn't have wanted the copies.

Hey, just spoke to my divorce attorney, she said it wouldn't hurt to have certified copies to send... so's she's gonna send some to me for our package! I have the one she sent me, but she's gonna send 3 more for us as back-ups and to go in the package (which we will be sending off upon my return from Morocco).

leaving in 2 days I'm just beside myself with excitement!!! 2 days of work

I just had my divorce papers notarized and didn't have a problem.

We just sent a normal photocopy of his divorce decree and a photocopy of the translation. If you can get certified copies though, it can't hurt right?

I just sent photocopies of my divorce papers. There is also a form somewhere, maybe part of the forms you already send, not sure now and the papers are at home, that certifies that you are sending true copies of the originals and are aware that they can ask to see the originals at the interview. Just to be safe I sent Abdel all the originals in a brown folder labeled to tell him to only show them if they asked for them. They didn't ask.

A certified copy is one that can be a copy from the original but stamped with the raised seal from a lawyer confirming the paper.

You have to contact the court where your divorce was filed/granted and ask them to give you copies. They stamp them with something, in my case it was a date and signature.

Just so you're prepared, there is a fee for this. Ironically, a certified copy of our marriage license was $10 but a certified copy of my divorce papers was only about 25 cents a page. It will definitely vary by court. I was able to call ahead and they had the divorce papers ready to pick up when I got there, while they would not do that with the marriage license and I had to sit there and wait while they prepared it. This was all at the same courthouse, just different offices.
