Name Change N400 Question

Hi all,

I have a question about changing my name on my N400 application.

When I got my green card through marriage it was in MAIDEN name. When I filed my I751 to remove GC conditions, I requested a name change, and the I-751 receipt has my MARRIED name on it. I'm still waiting for the ROC to process.

I intended to continue using my MAIDEN name for professional reasons and just use my married name personally, since I had published under my maiden name and developed a career with it. This has proven more difficult that I intended, since my employer doesn't allow me to use a preferred name to interact with my students via email or course managers.

Because of this, I am considering changing my name again during the N400 process to a hyphenated MAIDEN-MARRIED name, which would allow me to at least have some continuity with my name professionally. I have two questions:

1. Should I wait till my removal of conditions is processed to apply for the N400 with name change, since I had a name change underway with that application? My N400 window has opened, but I still haven't received the new green card.

2. Are there any problems I should anticipate with a second name change? I'm just trying to make sure I do everything right. I've read that sometimes a name change can delay the naturalization process. (I'm in Raleigh, NC. I'm not sure whether they do frequent court-based ceremonies here-- if anyone knows this, or knows how I could find out, that would be great.) I'm not in any terrible hurry, but I do want to make sure I don't get the N400 rejected.

Thanks so much!

As far as naturalization goes, this is your free chance to change it to whatever you would like to be named as....now changing other documents is a different matter (even those UK ID's, etc).  If I where you....i would apply for N-400 with the desired name, since the window opened.  There shouldn't be rejected because, by the naturalization policy is to allow you that.  A delay might be because of your filing for ROC is not done still, but i am not 100% on this
