just to clear up a slight logical ambiguity... if someone would be so kind as to confirm or deny this...

when it says you must have met in the last two years, it means that you have had face-to-face contact in the last two years, not that you first met each other within two years.

you could have intially met and fallen in love 10 years ago, but as long as you've been together in the same place, within the last 2 years, you've satisfied the condition.

anyone? anyone? :)

Exactly. If you met in 2000 at a party but did not become a couple until you ran into each other again in 2005, your first meeting was in 2000. But you would still need to show proof that you had physcially seen each other in the two years prior to filing.

Hard to understand why there would be an RFE to prove that you had met in the previous two years - sounds like you sent plenty of evidence. Then again, WHEN was the evidence from - when did you last meet in person?

The evidence was from December 04 and January 05, as well as boarding passes and itineraries from Feburary 1 2005. That was our last in-person meeting prior to his current visit.

I'd be surprised if you had to start all over. When submitting proof for the RFE it would probably help to show that he's here now as proof of meeting also. But, of course, whatever the immigration officer tells you is what you should do! I'm just surmising. I've never see this situation before.

That's exactly what we're asking the immigration officer (whether we should include the current infrormation with our RFE).

Since he is currently here, I think that would help a lot, also.

yes, meowboy is attending the meeting with me. I wonder if evidence can get any better than posing for a photo with an immigration officer and a dated newspaper?!? :)

You could but I think they tend to be sticklers for dates. As in, great, he's here now but the original req was to meet within 2 years of filing (2/1/05). Good luck!

I'm confused. What immigration person are you seeing?

I am curious as well - OP, is this an INFOPASS appt?

Tracy - she has an RFE now (for meeting in person in 2 years).

Got it on the RFE - I missed that part somewhere.

When did he get here? (This time, I mean.)

If the NOA1 date is what they use, then you lose by two weeks. Ugh. But I guess that date is what makes sense because it is the date that they acknowledge your petition was received. I've never seen where the postmarked date matters. It will be very interesting to see how this all plays out. Good luck!

No, it will not help. The present meeting did not take place during the 2-year period prior to submission of the petition.

meowgirl - can you let us know the exact language of the RFE you received?

I'm asking because I'm curious to know if they are questioning the two year part or the quality of your evidence (could be both, I guess, too).

So if you can, tell us exactly what they said (you might want to add it to the RFE thread pinned at the top of the forum), and tell us exactly what evidence you supplied.

Thanks,

meowgirl,

Only if the date on the newspaper is within the 2-year period prior to the submission of your petition.

Or, if this petition is refused for failure to have met in that 2-year period, the photo will be great evidence for your next petition.
