Hi guys,

I was wondering if someone can assist me with this question.  I read a sample question asking beneficiary "Why would you like to get married in USA rather than your own home country, given that most of your family is in India".

What are possible answers ?

1) because fiance visa  (7-9 months) is faster than CR1 (immediate relative greencard process - 12-15 months)

2) Get court marriage in USA and then give a reception in India

Please advice what would be a good and rational/logical answer to the above question.

Thanks in advance

Well, what are the reasons that you and your fiance want to get married in USA? Whatever is the case for you is what you should say. Always be honest.

Well in all honesty, we opted for fiance visa because it is a quicker route to be together.  Per our research, it takes 277 days to get finace visa and 415 days to get greencard (cr1).

We wanted to be together after marriage (immediately) and therefore, thought K1 is the best route.  If we would have applied for greencard (then that would have meant 415 days apart)

Nonetheless, I read in one "experience" post that the immigration officer ridiculed the fiance when she gave this answer and said that the information is inaccurate.

Hence, I wanted to know what other people have responded to the above mentioned question.

Thanks

My answer is going to be:

- Traditionally the wedding happens at the bride's place.

- We wanted to choose a place that was special to us, which happens to be the place where we met, began dating etc, which happens to be in the USA.

I think having an answer that shows a decision made from a social or efficiency (for your life) point of view than a procedural visa point of view could be received better. My fiancee and I maybe talked about an Indian wedding for 30 seconds, and then I said, " Normally in Indian weddings hundreds of people show up." Decision made! ;)
