Hi everyone,

I recently posted on reddit with a few questions concerning the cr1 visa for my wife and they recommended visajourney as a helpful place to go. I am a 25 y.o. man looking to sponsor my wife who is 27 and lives in Morocco. We married on March 26.

Currently for proof of a bona-fide marriage I have:

-our marriage certificate- original in arabic and certified translation into English

-wedding photos including with her family

-photos from our visits together

-a form making her the beneficiary of my life insurance

-a form making her the beneficiary of my retirement account if I die

- health and dental insurance through my work for both of us

I do not own any property as I recently graduated and started working full-time. We also do not have any children nor have we co-mingled our finances.

What other evidence can I include to strengthen my application?

I have read that including sworn affidavits by people who know us might be helpful to have. Is there a standard format recommended or maybe just an example ? Can I translate these from French myself or do I have to hire a certified translator? If they are in Arabic can my wife translate them to French and then I translate them to English? Not all of her family speaks French and none are fluent in English.

If I am the preparer of the i-130a does she still have to sign it? Could I send her the completed pdf, have her print, sign, and rescan it back to me?

Thanks for your help.

Best regards,

Michael

Read and study this VJ guide for CR-1 visas.  It should answer some of your questions>  http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1

EDIT: You have a good start with the pieces of evidence you listed....good luck.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Hi Missleman, thanks for your feedback. I reviewed the guide before posting here, and, while it is very helpful, it did not answer my specific questions.

You mentioned that I'm off to a good start: what could strengthen my application, in your opinion?

***Moved from Progress Reports to Process & Procedures.***

**Moderator hat off**

Lets get the semantics out of the way first, you will be submitting a petition, not an application; at no time will you, the petitioner be applying for anything.  Your wife will submit a visa application at a later point in the process.

Now to answer your questions.

Don't bother with the affidavits, they carry little to zero weight in the overall evaluation of a file.  Instead, focus on evidence of time spent together in-person.  Photos (which you have) are only part of that.  I would also include copies of passport entry stamps, visas, boarding passes, etc.
