Cashing a US Check in Turkey

I know this is a stretch but, has anyone ever tried to cash a US check in Turkey? I'm trying to send some money to a friend in need. I've heard PayPal is no longer available over there, so I figured mailing a check is the next best thing. I just wasn't sure if Turkish banks would even know what this is... American banking system is decades behind and not having an IBAN code system is really frustrating. Is it possible to get a US bank account with an IBAN?

Thank you

I have no experince trying to cash US Checks, nor have I ever been to Turkey.

But I can say that I've used transferwise successfully before to transfer funds from Germany to the US and the other way around. It worked very well and the money was transfered within a few days. The fees were also very reasonable compared to a bank wire transfer.

I just checked in the app and Turkey seems to be a country they are able to send money to.

What about Western Union? There are a number of locations in Turkey (According to a quick Google search). I downloaded the App on my phone and can send money in minutes. The receiver can quite literally pick the money up within a few minutes if needed. All you need is the persons full name as it appears on their ID. They would need to bring that ID and a code that you will be given once the money is sent and that is all.
