Hi everyone,

I am a new member. I am processing K1 F 129. I try to do it by myself for all paper work. I and my boyfriend are Vietnamese. We are couple in 10 years from we were students before I came the US in 2012. Today I just got citizenship. So, I have a question and hope your guy answer. About the evidence in 2 years, we chat and call video through Facebook by Vietnamese. Do I have to print out and translate those conversation to English?

Thanks all

No chats needed for the petition.  Ongoing relationship is needed for the embassy interview

Submit evidence that you have met face to face at least one time in the last two years is all that you need

YMMV

Include as evidence:

photos of you two together (at least 4 is good as a minimum, if you have more that's great but no need to include 100s)

airline tickets / travel tickets

hotel bookings

a few examples of ongoing chats and call logs (yes translate these)

You can book hotels from anywhere, so bookings don't do it.  Actual receipt from hotel stay is much better.

Chats in the petition stage are 100% meaningless and ignored.

YMMV

Thanks all

First . . . Congratulations on your citizenship!

Vietnam is one of the countries where you benefit from "front loading" your petition - which means you are including additional evidence of your relationship.  Additional evidence includes  samples of texts, e-mails, receipts, etc.  For my petition, I included a sample of texts from 1 day each month for 12 months, 1-2 e-mails from each month, plus the receipts from sending her flowers on special occasions, and the receipt for the engagement ring.  Read your texts and e-mail carefully . . . don't send anything personal.  You are simply showing that your are having a normal conversation with your significant other on a regular basis . . . discussions about work, a movie you saw, or planning your next visit.

If you have a traditional engagement ceremony, include photos from the ceremony with family and friends.  We included photos and an invitation that specifically stated it was an engagement ceremony.  Our engagement photos were below a banner that specifically stated "Dam Hoi" (or Din Hon, I don't remember which) and the date with our names.

Other Vietnam-specific documents we included were family trees for each of us that included names, birth and dates of death, and addresses of siblings, parents, aunts, uncles and grandparents.  I suspect the embassy in Vietnam wants this determine if you are related, which can be difficult if you both have a common surname.  My fiance also included a notarized statement saying she had no family in the U.S.  You may want to include a statement listing family you have in the U.S. if they are more distant than those included on your family tree.

You don't have to include these, but you also don't want your visa delayed because you waited to give them to the CO the day or your interview.  At the very least, have them ready for the interview.

Include EVERYTHING requested in the I-129F petition.  Include copies of boarding passes and passport stamps from your visits in the past 2 years.  Read the Vietnam-specific sub-forum.  There are a lot of minute differences for Vietnam when compared to other embassies - even other Asian embassies.  Vietnam is more difficult than the Philippines, Korea, Japan.  The staff in Vietnam are looking for visa fraud, which is more common in Vietnam than other countries.  Be prepared to prove you are legitimate.  It is not difficult, it is just more time consuming than petitioning someone from low-fraud countries like Canada or Japan.

Read the embassy reviews (http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/index.php?cnty=Vietnam&cty=&dfilter=5).  Many reviewers will mention what additional documents the CO requested.   Include them in your petition or have them ready to give to the CO when you attend the interview.

Oh . . . and about your text/e-mail being translated - I would include a sample with the petition that includes the Vietnamese and English translation.  The USCIS staff probably can't speak Vietnamese, but many of the COs do when you get to that stage.

Good Luck! - Jason

@Xuan mu Chat logs should definitely be included with i129f as they show ongoing relationship whilst apart.
