It takes about 2 weeks for the NVC to receive your case and another 30 days for them to assign your case and invoice number

The good thing about the NVC (unlike the USCIS) is that you can call them and get update on your case . you should start calling them after a couple of weeks of your petition being approved and ask if you have a case and invoice number yet. If you do you can proceed with paying fees and sending in documents

If the NVC has not assign you a case number then just call them back in a couple of days or so

my petition was approved on January 23 and sent on January 26 to the departament of state, today my father called, they said that my petition number is not yet in the system

I know you do not want to hear this but you will just have to wait and keep calling

looking at my timeline it seems it took about 42 days before a case number was assign for my wife case.

The NVC states that it takes about 30 days usually it is longer

There are days when they are close because of holidays or weather

You are getting close and I know it is frustrating.  After waiting 30 days for the case number I started calling the NVC at least once sometimes twice a day

Perfect, thank you very much, it helped me a lot, I had to know the average number of days it takes, you must imagine the anxiety that gives us, in two months will complete 1 year of waiting
