Ok…

I need help translating this sentences… Someone in my office saw this (see below) on a bank wall in Dusseldorf, Germany. And he found it hilarious. I was in Dusseldorf last week, and took a pic for him, and I am very curious to know what the inscription means. This is the wording:

Dies marchen wird

Wohl niemals wahr

Das lebenlerht sei Klugund spar

I went to google translations and to LEO to get the translation and so far this is what I have: “This fairy tale is true lebenlehrt probable never klugund save”

As you can see, it is not making much sense, so if someone translates it, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Ana

You've connected some words when they should have been separate:

Dies Maerchen wird wohl niemals wahr,

Das Leben lehrt sei klug und spar.

It means:

This fairytale will probably never come true,

Life teaches you to be smart and save.

It's just a little rhyme.

"This fairy tale will never come true,

live teaches us: be smart and save your pennies!"

Sounds bad!

The last line should be:

Das Leben lehrt, sei klug und spar'

Ahhhh... no wonder...

that's my problem with german (and the electronic translators), its that some words go together and then translate separately.

Thanks a million though… and yes.. he’s pooping coins… this is on a wall on the Sparkasse Bank in Old Town Dusseldorf, I had heard of the picture (or sculpture, don’t even know what to call it), and also found it hilarious…

Thanks much for the help!!

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
