Travel plans: What do Americans want to see of the Netherlands/Europe?

In March my USC fiancé will be on his first visit to the Netherlands to meet my friends and family. He will be staying for a little over two weeks and since I doubt we will be able to visit this extensively after I move I would love to show him as much of Europe and the Netherlands as I can.

I can show him Belgium and Germany easily as I live in the South close to both borders (near the city of Roermond), and I have a trip to Paris planned

I would love to have som input from you guys as to what would be definite highlights I cant miss.

What I have planned so far:

week 1

03-05 arrival on Monday at Amsterdam airport at 7.15 AM, 2 hour drive home, chillax at home and maybe have supper with my parents that evening

03-06 my birthday!!! but spending it at home with the two of us to let him work off his jetlag

03-07

03-08

03-09

03-10 birthdayparty at my parents

03-11 leave at 9 to be at Muiderslot castle at 11am, then continue on to Ammersoden castle at 3pm (castles is something we are both very passionate about)

week 2

03-12 take my dogs to my friend in the evening/afternoon

03-13 leave in the early morning for a 5 hour drive to Paris, arrive at around noon, check in at 3

03-14 leave at 8 in the morning to go visit Versailles (another castle/palace), either eat at Versailles or go back to paris for dinner

03-15 last day in Paris, check out at 11, leave right after supper as its a 5 hour drive home

03-16 pick up my dogs from my friend sometimes during the day

03-17

03-18

week 3

03-19

03-20

03-21 last day, catching his flight back at 10.something AM

Other things I have on the list but aren't set yet (added driving times so you can see if its a full day or half a day's planning):

- Visit the Zaans Museum (2 hour drive, got free tickets) where he can get a good idea of Dutch history

- Visit Amsterdam (2 hour drive)

- mom and dad want to take him to Margraten (1 hour drive) where there is a very large American WWII cemetary

- visit the city I work in, do a tour of the archives I work at, have my co-workers give us a tour of the museum (part of my department) and maybe do a guided city tour

- walk around my hometown where I was born

- have supper or lunch with my friends

- travel to Dunkirk France (3 hour drive) to meet up with a friend of ours from London that we never met in person (the ferry from England docks at Dunkirk, she will meet us there), debating whether to stop in Brugge (Belgium) on the way so I can show him the beautiful historic architecture of that city or Brussel (Belgium). Brussel isn't as beautiful as Brugge but its more well known with Americans and is the seat of the European Union. I could go to Brussel or Brugge another time but it's both a 2 hour drive so it'll take another day. What would you choose?

- make a Benelux tour (Belgium, Luxemburg and Netherlands) and take him to the three lands point where Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany meet. Have supper in Germany after that (I live pretty close to the border.

As you can see, I have loads of things planned but I can't seem to fit it in the time we have..... :help:

Besides "Honey, what would YOU like to do?" (ha), the big omission is a tour of the floodgates that would protect coastal Texas from hurricanes* if we ever were to get any sense and copy them.

*half of these are actually himmicanes

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

That's exactly what he keeps saying "just plan what you want to show me babe", sigh... You men are so frustrating.

Anyway. The floodgates are an excellent idea! We Dutchies never really think about them cause they're just there and they work.

Thank you!
