You apply for a B-2 (tourist) visa. You need to have strong ties to your home country (stable employment, own property, have a spouse/child you are taking care of, ect), so that you can prove that you will return home after your visit. 

 

Your friend can 'invite' you and include an invitation letter, but this isn't required and there is a bit of a debate as to whether it helps or hurts your visa application. It helps in that it shows that your intention is to visit someone, but it can hurt you in that it also shows that you may be unable to support yourself on your visit and doesn't give you many ties to your home country.

August 9, 2018: AOS Interview (Approved)

August 9, 2018: "Card in Production"

August 16, 2018: Green card in hand

 

 

May 2020: ROC!

11/02/2017.......... Conditional GC expired

11/22/2017.......... Biometrics completed
