Good evening and salutations to all!

I have several questions.

Firstly,

My fiancée and I completed the DS-160. On the confirmation page, however, I noticed it says:

"Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application (DS-160)"

On the US Travel Docs website (the site where you schedule your interview), it makes me schedule the interview via immigrant visa. Did I do something wrong? This is so confusing.

For the second letter of intent to marry, I want to change the address from my original letter of intent because the address was the USCIS but, the DS-160 confirmation page gives me the Moscow non-immigrant visa embassy address but, the US Travel Docs website makes me go process as a immigrant visa? Who is my addressee? The Moscow immigrant visa embassy has a different address than the one on the DS-160 (which provides me the non-immigrant visa address in Moscow). Very, very confusing.

Second, my fiancée called the Moscow embassy and they told her that she doesn't need to have any documents translated that are in Russian or English. People on here tell me otherwise? Confusing. LOL.

All of your advice will be greatly appreciated.

Common misunderstanding....K-1's are technically non-immigrant but the interview process for them its treated as an immigrant one. So just proceed with the "immigrant" visa interview. You are doing it correctly.

They actually said don't translate anything...? That is bizarre. I would get everything translated anyway. I wouldn't trust what was said over the phone versus the actual requirements that specify translations are indeed needed.

K1 is so called dual intentions visa. As PP mentioned, take it as  immigrnat visa for interview scheduling purposes.

It doesn't really matter which address is on your letter of intent to marry. We personally put the IV unit as addressee on the letter I brought to the interview.

It is correct, you do not have to translate any of the documents into English if they are in Russian. Only documents that are not in Russian (f.e. birth cerdificates or divorce decrees issued in former Soviet republics in their official language) must be traslated into English.

That's good to know! I didn't do a K-1, for the CR-1 they required everything to be translated...interesting. That's certainly one less thing to worry about then for K-1 folks.

Did you add your fiancé’s (or fiancée’s) patronymic name under “given names” on the DS-160? I added mine’s under her middle name on the I-129F but now, I was told that you don’t need to add it for the DS-160?

Actually, I was the Russian fiancee and I was filling out DS-160 on my own, lol. No, I did not put my patronimic name there. Just my first name, and left the middle name space blanc. I knew I would be dropping my patronimic name when adjusting status here, in the US. The only place where I mentioned my patronimic name on DS-160 was the space where the full name in Russian must be written.

Yes, your process was slightly different. The K-1 looks like an easier way because the waiting time is shorter comared to CR-1. However, if I had to do it all over again, I would have choosen CR-1 without hesitation. We're on our 8th month of waiting for adjustment of status and just tired of being in the limbo. So many troubles with everything and no idea when we finally will get our interview! It's hard to live in such uncertainty.

Oh, you only put your patronymic for where it asks you to put your full name in native alphabet?

The DS-160 asks for given name and surname, so, basically, I should just put her first name and last name, and only add her patronymic name where it asks for her full name where it asks for it in the native alphabet?

The only thing that worries me is that I put her patronymic as her middle name on the I-129F. I am scared that it might cause a problem now? Or, is it irrelevant for the DS-160 that I put her patronymic name as her middle name back when I filed The I-129F? I just don’t want them to see it as a discrepancy!

Sorry for for all the questions. I just want to make sure since I am so close. Currently, I am waiting for interview spots to open up!

No worries! I remember how we were super nervous about doing anything that could potentially delay the process. My fiance also stated my отчество as my middle name in I-129F despite my protests. And as I said, I only put my first name on DS-160. Consular officers in the embassy in Moscow seem to be familiar with cultural differences and are aware of the origin of russian patronymic names, hence they don't make a big deal out of it.

Just in case I pulled out my DS-160 (yes, I still keep copies of all forms and documents we ever filled out during this journey, several hundred pages) and my name in English states as NAME SURNAME, my name in native alphabet is ИМЯ ОТЧЕСТВО ФАМИЛИЯ. However, the K-1 visa was issued with my name, patronymic (written in English), and my surname on it. It took me a while to get rid of my patronymic here, merely in sake of convinience because it's really long and sounds weird in English. My first SSN card and driver's license were issued with patronymic on them :)

I see! So, even though I put her patronymic name on the I-129F as her middle name, I can remove it and just put her first name under given name and her last name under surname?  Her patronymic name will only be with her full Russian name under name in native alphabet in the format: ИМЯ ОТЧЕСТВО ФАМИЛИЯ. Or, can I put it as ФАМИЛИЯ ИМЯ ОТЧЕСТВО? ^_^

I see you are very meticulous in everything. I'm more relaxed about these things despite my legal background. Yes, normally in Russian it would be ФАМИЛИЯ ИМЯ ОТЧЕСТВО.

I know, LOL! But what way should I put it? You initially said: ИМЯ ОТЧЕСТВО ФАМИЛИЯ?

Frankly, I don't believe it makes any difference, either way would work.

Btw, what is the waiting time to get an interview date in Moscow now? A year ago, I was able to schedule my interview within a week. I guess, it's much longer now?

You're very welcome! I myself received so much good advice on this amazing forum, that I owe the others, who are still in the midst of the process, anything I can help with.

Good luck with scheduling your interview. I hope you will get it soon.
