oh k , i guess need to get working on that. My wife's interview is friday. I tested her knowledge on the 100 questions and she got 99.99% of them down.  She got two wrong so i feel good about that part.  

 

I guess i just need to start gathering everything that I have.   Can you give me some of the items that you took with you?

Day 12/20/ went to do biometrics, turn away as wife has a cut on thumb - will try to walk in next week

Day 12/28 - bio metrics done ! - walked in San Diego as we were visiting my in laws.

Day 1/4/2013 - received text/email that case is ready to be scheduled for interview !

Day 1/15/2013 - received hard copy letter to let us know interview is on 2/12 !

Day 1/17/2013 - received text/email that EAD has been approved

Day 1/26/2013 - received EAD card

Day 2/12 - interview done - approved on spot!

Yeah, that's right. I believe you might not need the I-551 stamp if you are not travelling outside of the country. Hopefully, you get approved on the day of your interview and they schedule your oath pretty soon. If you need the extension stamp you could get the following week after your interview, regards.

I got the stamp the same day, but it was a bit more complicated as he recommended me for approval for the N400. So I had to get this printout from them with said this is why I don’t have my green card. I was told not to lose his and give it at my oath ceremony. They had to get 2 USCIS agents to sign it.

 

They only gave me a stamp until July 15 because they assume I will be naturalized by then.

Since my interview is over I can provide a guide on how it went:

 

I arrived in Cleveland and there was traffic so I only had 6 minutes to play. It took a while to get through security and the place is huge, the people at the front were super friendly and directed me to the place. I arrive at the interview area (looks like it is a dual info-pass/interview area), and there was no directions on what to do to. I sat down and asked someone and they said there is a tray with no signage where you should leave your letter. I did that.

 

The interviewer opens the door and calls me by my last name, then also asks if my spouse was with me and told her to come in. He seemed like a very friendly guy, and took me and in and told me he would conduct an I-751 interview first then the N400. We discussed things like oath days at the beginning because I mentioned I needed an I-551 stamp. Looked at my photo books of my family and seemed like that was all he needed. He asked me basic questions about my marriage like:

  • My name
  • DOB
  • Where we met
  • Was I married before (system said I was, and I wasn't so he corrected that)
  • When I was married (I said the wrong date and my wife corrected me and he gave me a look like I was gonna get in trouble with my wife)

I passed the I-751 interview. Hurray!

 

The N400 was a breeze, no additional documents requested. Just the standard yes/no questions and I answered the first 6 civics questions correctly and a couple things to sign on the touchscreen.

 

Now comes to the oath scheduling portion and I551 stamp, since I had international travel planned he recommended I get the oath ceremony after July 1st. I received a stamp for July in my passport and letter that I would have to give to the people at the ceremony. Also it's a lot closer than Cleveland to where I live.

The questions are easy! She'll be totally fine. As far as your list, I would also add:

 

1. Health insurance, with both names

2. Car insurance, with both names

3. When you say financial statements you mean bank accounts? Credit cards? Make sure it's all joint. Whatever you have joint

4.Utility bills with both names

5. Car loan with both names

6. Lease/Mortgage

 

 

I am sure there is more you can bring, and they will probably not ask for it, but it's better to be prepared. Good luck!

Hi everybody. I applied under 3 years rule. I heard that I have to go with my spouse for interview. It is right isn't it? I do not get the biometric yet but can I wake in for taking the biometric instead of waiting the time on the schedule? Thank you guys so much.

Yes financial statements, joined bank accounts and cards.

hahah if you want to be technical :) if i had asked her the 100 questions then yes it'll be a 98% but i didn't...i asked her most of them and my 99.99% was just an expression of confidence in her answers :D

Update on my interview today in Portland, OR:

  • I was approved!
  • My appointment was at 7:45 am. I arrived at 7:40 and was out by 8:05
  • The interviews happen upstairs, not downstairs where the biometrics are done. However, DON'T go straight upstairs when you arrive - there is a receptionist to the left after you pass through security (opposite the entry to the room where the biometrics are done). They will look at your appointment letter and staple a number to it. When my turn came they called me by name, not number. I got taken through to a private room for my interview - it seems like they don't use the interview windows you can see in the waiting room.
  • The interview started with the civics, reading and writing tests, then a thorough review of my application. A few things to note:
    • They wanted to know dates of my most recent addresses and jobs - I had to try and remember these off the top of my head, so it would be good idea to have them handy
    • If anything has changed since you submitted your application, they'll need to know that too. I had started a new job since submitting my application, so needed to look up details like the employer address. Thankfully they were OK with me having my phone in the interview, but again it would be good to have that information handy.
    • They go over the long list of questions you answered "no" to (are you a terrorist, etc) on your application. After countless numbers of these, they then reach the questions you should be answering "yes" to (do you promise to uphold the constitution, etc). My interviewer didn't really change her pace or tone of voice when she reached this point in the questioning, so make sure you're listening to the questions and not just answering "no" to everything!
  • The only documents I was asked for in the interview were my green card, drivers licence and passport
  • I had the option to do a same-day oath at 1:30pm, but my wife couldn't get out of work at that time, so I asked to be scheduled for a later time. They said I would receive a letter with my oath ceremony date and time

So that's my experience at the Portland office. Everyone, from the folks manning security through to the interviewer, was very pleasant and it was a quick process.
