K1, K3 - it matters not. The fee was still low. That being said though, the attorney should still have done their job. As we weren't there, we don't know what he/she promised you. Any attorney who promises a 100% guarantee is a liar.

As I said, I'm sorry you've had this unfortunate experience. I just fail to see what good it does to post this other than help you let off some steam.

Good usage of the word "attorney" and "liar" in one sentence! ;)

To find a true "qualified" attorney do a search on

martindalehubbard.com

These attorneys are all rated by both ttheir colleagues and clients and it's a great place to find GOOD lawyers.

I recognize this behavior as very similar to the California attorney (Holmes & Lolly) that we used for the K1 visa -- right down to the fee. He got us the visa without too many hassles, but my fiance and I had to follow the process very closely. We weren't thrilled with how they helped us but they adequately got the task done.

This time around, on our current K3 path, we consulted with him and with two other attorneys. We are doing it ourselves, though, and have our fingers crossed. If we need to retain an attorney, it won't be H&L.

This has nothing to do with me letting off steam - I do not find that necessary - if I want to let off steam - I would do just that. I would have come on ranting and raving to no end!

I am sorry you fail to see the simple fact of offering a little heads up warning in searching for lawyers - I, personally do not find anything wrong in that. Some people would think to appreciate it!

As far as the fee is concerned - it really does not matter if it is low or high - that really all depends on the area of country you are in - it is the point that lawyers are hired for a purpose and if they do not do their job - they are failing the whole purpose of what they were hired to do - it has nothing to do with promises - it is a job - do it right!

I think everyone has a point here. First of all the OP is clearly upset, and with good right. The jist of her message could prove as a cautionary tale to noobs to the process....'just cos you hire a lawyer doesn't mean you shouldn't actively manage your case & keep on top of it'

I also wouldn't have put a name to the law firm UNTIL I filed an official complaint.

However, Becca does have a point too....OP, we all read your frustration at what's going on with your case. Just because you don't put the words 'I need advice/what should I do?' doesn't mean we're 'not allowed to comment'. I think you're a little touchy on that score...and it's clear in this thread and others you've made.

But arguing over the money aspect seems kinda silly...the lawyer's fee is the lawyer's fee...OP didn't set the fee, and 'well the laywer was cheap' is a pointless argument.

Good luck & let us know how your complaint goes.

I'd like to 'clarify' why I commented on the fee.

As most of you know I work for an attorney. All I can attest to is the 'way it works'. For good service from the best lawyers in their field, you WILL pay more. Good lawyers know they are good and they know they are worth their fee. They have earned it by experience and proven results.

I also know that in CA and other western states, one will pay much higher fees for representation than one would where I live. I consulted an immigration lawyer in WV over 2 years ago regarding processing our case and he wanted $1500.

ITA.

Even if the OP is not looking for advice, there are others reading who may be or will be in a similar situation that *do* want to hear some varied opinions. Isn't that part of the point of putting things on the message board - so others who come after you can benefit? Speaking in general, I don't think the OP really has the right to limit the types of responses to a thread since the OP isn't the only one who benefits from his/her thread.

Well sure, 'you get what you pay for'...but my point was...she chose the lawyer, paid the fee....and to be all 'well they're ####### cos they're cheap' is kinda armchair QBing at this point, cos regardless, what she paid was still a lot of money. The 'cheap' fee doesn't excuse the service she got.

No it doesn't. You'll note I said the attorney still should have done their job.

Attorneys are rather like realtors. Some know what they are doing and some don't. Some earn their money and some don't. Both have a regulatory board that polices them. Word of mouth polices them further.

Good Lord - for one - I think I have a right to be a little touchy as you say - but it seems to me - no matter what I try to post on this board - I seem to not do it right enough for anyone. READ your first paragraph again - that was the only thing I was trying to do - give a warning and now that my complaint has been officially filed - the names of Holmes and Lolly is correct.

You can all post until your heart's content, but really sometimes you all should listen to yourself. And I do not care about the fee - I was not the one who started the argument on that - I was just stating how much I paid - it did not need to be brought back with a snide comment from someone else.

I start out my threads and it seems that there is always someone who comes in with snide remarks or blame or making accusations without asking - I find that rediculous - sorry if you do not.

I see posts on this website from sex to everything else under the sun and for some reason I alwys get someone coming in and making their own assumption as to my intentions of my thread - I find that down right wrong! I will continue to post and to defend my right to do that and if I feel something someone says is wrong, well then i will tell you that too. It is my thread and I know what my intentions were in everyone of them. But I will tell you all that I am a little tired of having to defend my every thread because people just can not get the jist of the thread. Read this next statement and understand it or don't - "we all make the choice to open our own minds beyond our own thoughts and we all have the right to think before we speak words that sometimes are out of line!"

You need to cultivate some reading comprehension cos I was focking definding you about the money, lol. Stop yipping at everyone like a hyper poodle and have a rational conversation for once. You're upset, we get that. But if you're going to constantly fly off on one because God forbid people here don't just reply 'oh thank you so much'...well seeing this process out is going to do your nut in.
