Hello, my fiancee (UK citizen) and I are in the process of a K-1 Fiancee Visa. We have not received a second notice of action yet so we do not have a case number, therefore cannot ask the call-in service for the State Department. The situation we have is that she lived and worked in Myanmar, and she is under the impression she needs police checks for every country she lived in for more than 12 months to bring to the interview when it finally happens. We are traveling in SE Asia over the next few months and will have an opportunity to go to Myanmar but from local contacts have found out that usually foreigner registration is handled under the table and she cannot obtain a registration document to bring to the police because they don't issue them to current non-residents anyways. My question is will she absolutely need a police check from Myanmar in her interview with US officials in England? Would it be an instant disqualifier if she doesn't have it but has them from other countries she has lived and worked in (England, Thailand and Indonesia)?

She needs police certificates from every country she’s ever lived in for 6 months or longer since the age of 16. If it was less than 6 months she doesn’t it. And that is every single country no matter what. No exceptions. There have been people on VJ who have reported getting a hold on their visa by the embassy until they got every police certificate. Be careful not to issue it so early because some have an expiration date. Just be aware of how long it takes and get it done accordingly.

We've found on the US gov't website that it says police certificates from Indonesia may require nefarious means to obtain them and are not available to residents in or out of the country. What that means is you would need to negotiate a bribe or series of bribes to acquire a document that may not be legitimate. As far as we can tell, the US does not require a police report from Indonesia due to these reasons. This would be very much the same case in Myanmar. I know TNJ17 said "no exceptions" in their reply but this document could be next to impossible to acquire without actually going to Myanmar and bribing the police. We have also found out that anyone not currently residing in Myanmar cannot get one because they don't issue them to people not currently living there. It seems to me that it would look rather bad in the interview when it is brought up, for her to say "we went to the police in Myanmar and bribed them for this document that I'm presenting to you now that may be completely illegitimate." It seems like an impossible-to-negotiate catch-22 to me. We are very lost on this.
