Since the root of the issue is work, (after all, that's why probably 90% of the illegal immigrants enter the country in the first place) it makes the most sense to cut off the option to work. If the options to get a job disappear, they will stop coming.

You can never make all the jobs disappear. Lots of people hire illegals directly and pay them cash.

Someone needs a cheap babysitter, gardener, cleaning lady, etc - they hire an illegal.

That's clearly true but that's not a very large portion of the work, I assume. Where I live, there are hundreds of places that hire illegals. If this option didn't exist, I do believe many would return home or never come in the first place.

At least Gary has a logical, rational solution. Lou Dobbs would probably be thrilled with mass execution of 10 million illegals.

The solution is easy. Enforce the labor laws!! If we actively went after EVERY employer that hires undocumented workers and put them in jail the illegal immigration would stop! The ones that are here would go home on their own if they can't get a job.

We can't get them all, but let's be honest...the US isn't even TRYING.

If a few CEO's do the perp walk in handcuffs on CNN it would send a very strong message to the rest. I would also support a "snitch line" where someone could report someone hiring undocumented workers.

I would even support a new regulation requiring anyone that is hired to prove their immigration status. We already do background checks for most jobs why not this also?

I was told by a mutual friend that he has a relative working at ICE who keeps the heat off him. I'd believe it too; he's pretty open about what he does, makes no attempt to hide it. If I knew HER name, I'd snitch on 'em both!

They didn't have money to come here either, so I doubt that will stop them leaving when the jobs dry up.

With the price of corn going the way it is, it will soon be more and more profitable for mexican agricultural workers to stay and work farms in Mexico anyway. This is another piece of solving the illegal immigrant problem: fixing the Mexican economy so people don't need to leave.
