Hello!

My wife and I got married late Sept 2016, and we filed our paperwork Jan 2017. We are still waiting for our interview date to come up.

I thought every GC through marriage required a conditional 2 year GC, but I just read that you only have this is you have been married less than two years.

Now my wife and I have already been married for almost 1 year 3 months, does this mean I will have less time on my conditional GC (depending on whenever the interview is) or do it have to be 2 years to the day or longer for it to in any way matter?

This feels like a very silly question, I just wanted to know if there would be any silver lining to the crazy long wait times (not to mention tears) we have gone through so far.

Thank you as always for all your help and answers, this has been such a great source and comfort for the last couple of years

nope

as said, anyone who is married less than 2 years will get a 2 year GC. the 2 years start counting since the day you become a resident

90 days before the card expires, you will have to remove conditions

Bummer.

Thanks for your responses everyone.

With the luck we've had so far, ill probably get the interview a week before our 2-year anniversary!

Depending on who the immigration officer is in charge of your case, he/she may be mindful of the 2-year anniversary and help you out. My wife's case got extremely delayed when we moved across the country and we just barely had our interview in August of this year (got married January 2016). We didn't bring an updated medical exam (oops), so they sent us a request for evidence. The immigration officer essentially told us that we'd be approved after we sent in the updated medical, but that she'd "take her time" finalizing our application so that we could go straight to the 10-year green card. Fingers are crossed! Haven't heard anything since we sent the exam back in September, so it seems like she's keeping true to her word. As much as we want the green card, I'm sure the wait is worth saving us the trouble of removing conditions. Best of luck to you!!
