Waiting on NOA2 and Traveling

Hi all,

The projected time to hear back on an NOA2 (or RFE, hopefully not though!) for me is Dec 11-15 right now. I leave to visit my fiancé for Christmas on Dec 12 and won't be back home until the 26th. Should I be concerned that I won't have access to any communication other than through the app? What is the timeline they expect a response back if it is an RFE?  Is there anyway to access that information online?

Thanks for any help you can give!

Generally 30 days is given to respond to an RFE. Once they get a response it can take as little as one week to hear approval back from them.

You can track your case status online via: https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/ However, it will NOT go into details about your RFE if you get one, and will often NOT tell you what type of correspondence they have sent you.

Your only concern is an RFE in which case you would need to respond, and even so you'll still have a couple of weeks to get that all sorted if your timeline is correct. If you overnight them the information you'll be left with plenty of time.

I hope you don’t mind me asking you this. I am a UK citizen with an I 130 in progress, my son is a US citizen and he has petitioned for me. I only have my receipt so I’m  expecting it to be many months until I hear anything. I really want to visit my son but when I called Department of Homeland Security to check if I could travel to the US on my current B1/B2 visa, with an immigration petition in progress they told me no, I couldn’t. I was interested to know if you managed to travel successfully to the US?

thanks

I have no idea. I don't know anything at all about a B1/B2 visa as this is the K1 forums. I did not travel to the US, I traveled to the UK to visit my fiance (the mailing was coming to my US address, hence the forum post).

The app (or more specifically, the web site) was fairly up to date.  Our NOA2 was dated on Dec 5th, while the I saw the app update on Dec 6th.  The USPS digital delivery / alert came in on roughly Dec 7th with the physical letter coming in on December 9th.

Not quite the proper forum for this as an I-130 in your case is the IR-1. It's very difficult to visit while an IR-1 is pending, but not impossible. Check the IR-1 forum for details on it!

Thanks for the reply. I obviously understood the circumstances of the writer. My category is IR 5 . I’m desperate to visit 😢

Sorry, IR-1 and IR-5 have roughly the same requirements, which is why I pointed you to the IR-1 forum. There is also another forum here that might find you the information you're looking for too:
